How to play
- Press Start. A secret code of four symbols is hidden. Symbols can repeat.
- Fill four slots with symbols and press Check.
- A filled dot means a symbol is right and in the right place. A hollow dot means right symbol, wrong place.
- Crack the code within ten guesses. Fewer guesses is better.
About this game
Code Breaker is a deduction game. The game picks a code of four symbols from a set of six, and the same symbol may appear more than once. You make a guess, and the game tells you only two things: how many symbols are exactly right, and how many are the right symbol in the wrong place. It never says which ones.
Each symbol is a different shape and colour, and every clue is shown both as dots and as words, so nothing depends on colour alone. Repeated symbols are counted fairly: a symbol in your guess can only match one symbol in the code.
You have ten guesses. If you run out, the game shows the code. Your best result, the fewest guesses you needed, is saved in this browser.
A good first guess uses two symbols twice each, like circle circle square square. Then change one thing at a time and watch how the clue moves. If a symbol never scores, you know it is not in the code at all, which removes it from every later guess.
What this does not measure
This is a logic game for fun, not an IQ test or any kind of assessment. Some codes need more guesses than others by luck alone.
