How to play

  1. Press Start. Sixteen cards lie face down.
  2. Tap a card to turn it over, then tap a second card.
  3. If the pictures match, they stay up. If not, they turn back after a moment.
  4. Match all eight pairs. Fewer moves is better; time breaks ties.

About this game

Pair Flip is the old card game of finding matching pairs, with pictures drawn for this site. Sixteen cards hide eight pairs of shapes. You turn over two cards per move. A match stays face up; a miss flips back so you have to remember where each picture was.

Every picture is a different shape in a different colour, and each card also has a written name for screen readers, so you never have to tell cards apart by colour alone. The layout is shuffled every game.

Your score is the number of moves, where a move is two cards. Eight moves is the perfect game and needs luck; most good games land between twelve and twenty. If two games tie on moves, the faster one counts as better. Your best result is saved in this browser.

A steady plan helps more than speed. Turn over cards you have not seen yet before you guess, and say the pictures to yourself as you go: star at the top left, moon in the middle.

What this does not measure

This is a casual game, not a memory test. It does not measure intelligence, diagnose memory problems, or predict how well you learn.
