How to play
- Press Start. A short sentence appears and the 30-second clock begins.
- Type it in the box. Correct characters turn green; mistakes turn red.
- Finish the sentence exactly to get the next one.
- Your score is correct characters per minute, with accuracy shown next to it.
About this game
Typing Burst is a half-minute dash at the keyboard. Each sentence is short, plain, and written for this site, in the language you are using it in. You type it in the box below, and every character lights up as right or wrong as you go. Get the whole sentence exactly right and the next one appears.
Speed is measured in characters per minute rather than words, because a word is a very different length in English, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese. Only correct characters count toward speed. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed that matched.
Typing methods vary by language. Korean, Chinese, and Japanese are usually typed through an input method that builds each character from several keys or a reading. The game waits until a character is finished before checking it, so the input method does not count against you, but it does take a little longer per character. Compare your results within one language, not across languages.
This game is meant for a physical keyboard. It works with phone keyboards too, but scores there are naturally lower. Your best speed is saved in this browser.
What this does not measure
This is a game. It is not an IQ test, a typing certification, or a job skills test. Keyboard layout, input method, and device change the result a lot.
