How to play
- Type a five-letter word and press Enter.
- Each tile is marked: in the word and in the right spot, in the word but elsewhere, or not in the word.
- Use the clues to narrow it down. You have six guesses.
- Press New word to play again as often as you like.
About this game
Word Guess is a hidden-word puzzle with a fresh word every time you play. In English the word has five letters. After each guess, every tile shows whether that letter is in the right spot, somewhere else in the word, or not in it at all. The marks use colours, but each one also has a small symbol and a spoken label, so colour is never the only clue.
Repeated letters are handled carefully. If you guess a letter twice and the word has it once, only one of your copies is marked as present. The keyboard under the board keeps track of what you have learned about each letter.
Each language plays a little differently. Korean splits words into the keyboard letters, so 학교 is five tiles. Japanese uses four hiragana, and Chinese uses four-character idioms typed with your usual input method. The word lists were picked by hand for this site, and guesses are not checked against a dictionary, so any five letters are accepted.
A good opening uses common letters you have not tried, such as vowels and frequent consonants. Your games played, wins, and best result are saved in this browser for each language.
What this does not measure
This is a word game for fun, not a vocabulary or language test, and not an IQ test. Some words are simply harder to find than others.
