How to play

  1. Press Start. You take five penalties.
  2. Swipe up from the ball toward where you want it to go. Sideways sets left or right, and a longer swipe goes higher.
  3. A quick flick shoots hard; a slow push is soft and easier to save. Curve your swipe to bend the ball.
  4. A goal scores 100 points, plus up to 100 more the nearer it goes to a corner. Wide shots and the woodwork score nothing.

About this game

Penalty Kick is a five-shot shootout on a 3D pitch. The ball waits on the spot, eleven metres out, and the keeper sways on his line. You shoot with one swipe: the direction of the swipe picks the spot in the goal, and how far you swipe sets the height. A ring on the goal shows where a button shot is aimed.

Speed matters as much as placement. A fast flick sends the ball in quickly and gives the keeper less time to get across. A slow swipe floats in and he can reach most of the goal. If your swipe curves, the ball bends the same way in the air, which can take it around a keeper who has guessed right.

The keeper does not see the future. On each kick he either guesses a side or reads your shot, and then dives after a short reaction. Early on he mostly guesses, but every kick he reads you a little more often and reacts a little sooner, so the last penalty is the hardest.

Any goal is worth 100 points, and shots tucked into the corners earn up to 100 more, so the best possible score rewards brave placement over safe shots down the middle. Shots past the posts or over the bar score nothing, and so does hitting the woodwork. You can also aim with the arrow buttons and power slider or the keyboard.
